2 charged after burnt remains of a missing nurse are found in a pit

A Father and his son have been apprehended by police in Kawambwa in connection with the brutal murder of a nurse.

Davy Chishiba senior and his son Davy Chishiba junior were picked by police after the death of Bulemu Kafunda aged 36, a Nurse at Kawambwa Hospital.

According to the family, Chishiba jr started staying with Ms Kafunda after she got him from the village with a view of helping with education.

However, family members said after six years of staying together, Chishiba’s behavior changed prompting Ms Kafunda to inform his parenta about his bad behavior.

They told police that on November 20, this year, after Chishiba Jr wrote his last grade twelve examinations paper, Ms Kafunda summoned Mr Chishiba senior and explained to him about the behaviour of his son.

According to the family, Chishiba jr started staying with Ms Kafunda after she got him from the village with a view of helping with education.

However, family members said after six years of staying together, Chishiba’s behavior changed prompting Ms Kafunda to inform his parenta about his bad behavior.

They told police that on November 20, this year, after Chishiba Jr wrote his last grade twelve examinations paper, Ms Kafunda summoned Mr Chishiba senior and explained to him about the behaviour of his son.

The family members told police that after the discussions, Ms Kafunda and Mr Chishiba concluded that the boy should move back to the village since he had finished his grade twelve.

They said Mr Chishiba and his son were not pleased with the decision.

The family members said following decision to take Chishiba jr back to the village, Ms Kafunda disappeared and was did not report for work.

And in a statement issued by police spokespersoon Rae Hamoonga, when police instituted investigations, they discovered a note in her bedroom in which she alleged that she was raped by unknown person and ashamed about the ordeal.

Mr Hamoonga said the note further stated that 10 percent of her properties should be given to Chishiba Junior.

“On 30th November,2021 around 18:10 hours the matter was reported at Kawambwa Police station and a follow up was made by Police.

Upon searching at the house the officers found a written note on the deceased’s bed stating that; ” She was raped by unknown person hence she felt ashamed of what had happened that she has gone to the farm in Filope Area. The note further stated that 10% of her properties should be given to M/Davy Chishiba,” he said.

Mr Hamoonga said during a search, officers discovered burnt human bones in a pit.

“A search was extended to her farm and nothing was found at the farm. Another search was conducted around the house in town where officers discovered burnt human bones in a rubbish pit with remains of burnt tires,” he said.

Mr Hamoonga said police picked up the remains of the deceased and deposited them in Kawambwa District Hospital Mortuary for further examination.

He said Chishiba and his father have since been apprehended and are leading the officers to the crime scene and also for the apprehension of others who are alleged to have jointly acted together.
