Twenty-four people have fallen ill after consuming suspected poisonous meat in Nalolo District of Western Province.
Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo stated that 14 were admitted to Muoyo rutal Health centre while 10 were admitted to Lewanika General hospital in Mongu.
“Police in Western Province recieved a report of suspected poisoning from a member of the public in Lyamutinga area that 24 people fell ill after consuming meat bought from Simata Munalula aged 50 of Kandiana Village, Chief Indopu of Nalolo District and that 14 were admitted to Muoyo Rural Health Center while 10 were admitted to Lewanika General Hospital,” Katongo stated.
She stated that when police followed up the matter today 15th February, 2021, they found that only four victims were still admitted to Muoyo Rural Health Center still receiving treatment while ten had been discharged.
“The condition of the 10 admitted to Lewanika General Hospital is yet to be established.
Out of the 24 victims , 12 are juveniles while the rest are adults.
Investigations have been instituted in the matter and the carcass will be subjected to laboratory examination,” Katongo stated.
