The Luangwa District Joint Security Team has arrested 39 Ethiopians for illegal entry into the country.
Lusaka Province commissioner of police, Luckson Sakala confirmed the development in Luangwa today.
Mr. Sakala says the District Joint Operation intercepted the group at Katondwe area.
He says the illegal immigrants appeared to have walked through the bush for many days.
And Luangwa District Commissioner Julius Sikasote disclosed that the 39 Ethiopians passed through Malawi, Mozambique and then closed into Zambia so that they could connect via Zimbabwe to their final destination in South Africa.
Mr. Sikasote says the Ethiopians were moving in three groups as the first of seven people were arrested on Monday, 26 on Tuesday and the six immigrants have been arrested today.
Meanwhile, the District Commissioner has appealed to the Immigration Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs to manage the vast border in the district.
And one of the immigrants who was identified as Justin said they traveled by foot and their journey started in September 2020.
