A man from Kitwe lost his life after collapsing under a pile of dirt when he and two other people were excavating soil out of a hole.
Bright Mwape 27, who perished as a result of soil collapsing on him, was confirmed by Copperbelt province commanding officer Sharon Zulu in a statement.
“We have recorded a case of sudden and unnatural death reported at Mindolo Police Station which occurred along Copperbelt Energy Corporation lines between old Kawama and Recourse Compounds Kitwe,” she said.
Mwape of the same address perished as the ground collapsed on him, according to Misheck Sikanyika, 22, of unmarked home number in Kamatipa Compound, who reported the incident, according to Mrs. Zulu.
She claimed that the incident occurred as the deceased and his two other pals were excavating dirt from a trench to build blocks when the dirt bent in and buried him.
“Police rushed to the crime scene and exhumed the body. The deceased’s body was later deposited to Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting burial as no foul play was suspected in the matter,” she said.
