Amos Chanda Warned By Magistrate

Former State House Press Assistant AMOS CHANDA has been informed that if he continues to flee from court in the case where he is accused of destroying evidence, his bail may be revoked.

Following Mr. CHANDA’s absence from court when his matter came up this morning, Lusaka Resident Magistrate IREEN WISHIMANGA gave the caution.

Upon the State’s request, Magistrate WISHIMANGA has since postponed the case until April 19, 2023.

In this case, Mr. CHANDA, who worked as President EDGAR LUNGU’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, is accused of deleting evidence on two separate occasions.

In count one, it is claimed that Mr. CHANDA stole a case record number CRMP/001/2020, property of the Government of Zambia, along with unidentified people on dates unknown, but between May 12, 2020 and October 1, 2022.

And in count two, it is claimed that Mr. CHANDA wilfully destroyed case record number CRMP/001/2020 between the dates in question while acting with other people, knowing that the document would be needed as evidence in a court case.
