Fomer Kitwe district commissioner and Nkana constituency aspiring candidate Binwell Mpundu has with immediate effect resigned from the Patriotic Front(PF).
Last week, PF secretary general Davies Mwila announced names of parliamentary candidates in the August 12 elections, leaving out Mr Mpundu.
Mr Mpundu however said despite not adopted he will contest the election as an independent candidate.
And today, Mr Mpundu has announced his resignation from PF stating that the decision is in compliance with the law.
“The public wish to note that I have not been active in party activities by way of holding a party position for the last four years and therefore my membership to the PF party in the last four years has been by heart and choice and thus I have since let go of that attachment. I wish to thank the PF party leadership for the support they rendered to me for the years I have been a member and wish the party all the best from here on,” he said.
Mr Mpundu has thanked the party.
“The public should however note that the law does not place a duty on me to dictate to my supporters as to which candidates they must support at Local, Mayoral and Presidential levels and therefore I will not be held accountable on their choices,” he said.
