Speaker of National Assembly, Nelly Mutti, has ordered Members of Parliament whose seats were nullified by the High Court during the petitions to vacate and not to take part in the parliamentary business.
The speaker said such Mps will not continue to enjoy the privileges of being in the house until that decision has been overturned by the Constitutional Court.
This follows a point of order raised by Solwezi East Dr Alex Katakwe , who asked whether or not Kabushi Member of Parliament Bowman Lusambo was in order to be in Parliament after his seat was nullified.
In her ruling, the Speaker said only those who will be successful in their appeals in the Constitutional Court will be allowed back in the House and take part in Parliamentary business.
“In view of the foregoing, it is my considered view that Mr B C Lusambo, is out of order to remain in the House after the nullification of his election by the High Court.
Further, Honourable Members, in view of my ruling, all Members of Parliament whose election was nullified by a decision of the High Court, whether or not such decision has been appealed against, shall forthwith not take part in any Parliamentary business,” she said.
