Cameroon suspends the Yango taxi-hailing app

Yango, a taxi-hailing service, has been suspended in Cameroon until further notice.

It was criticized by the transport ministry for utilizing private vehicles to deliver both public and commercial items and claimed that it had failed to secure a license.

After receiving several reports that Yango drivers do not pay taxes, the decision was made.

However, because the cost of public transportation has increased due to rising gasoline prices, app users are dissatisfied with the suspension.

The app, according to a consumer group, offered reasonable costs and ensured user safety.

The only ride-hailing application utilized in Cameroon is called Yango, and it has been accessible in the country’s capital Yaoundé and the city of Douala since November 2021. Each day, thousands of people use it.
