-All former mine residential areas in Chingola on the Copperbelt, are experiencing erratic supply of clean and safe pipe water.
This is because Konkola Copper Mines -KCM-, from which raw water is sourced from, has reduced its operational activities.
The former mine residential areas access safe and clean water from the raw water pumped from mining activities, which is processed by Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company.
Company Managing Director, NDILA HAMALAMBO has disclosed this to Water Development Permanent Secretary, JOE KALUSA, when he inspected various water supply and sanitation installations in Chingola.
The installations included the KCM water treatment plant, which is in a dilapidated state, with serious leakages and obsolete equipment.
And Mr. KALUSA directed Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company to ensure it resolves the water problem.
He stated that it is not normal for people to live without water and sanitation services, which are critical to any human settlement.
Mr. KALUSA told Mr. HAMALAMBO that he is disheartened by the situation in Chingola and he does not want the company to continue to offer sub-standard services.
Earlier, Mr. KALUSA called at the office of Chingola Mayor, JOHNSON KANG’OMBE, where he said the local authority must help Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company to secure its installations by processing land title.
