In order to enable small-scale farmers to enhance their maize production, the Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) has advised Constituency Development Committees in the various farming districts to consider purchasing tractors.
The mechanization of the agricultural industry, according to ZCF Director General JAMES CHIRWA, would improve maize production and allow the nation to export mealie meal and maize without experiencing a scarcity.
He claims that after small-scale farmers adopt mechanization, the country will be able to expand its maize production to 25 Million Metric Tons with the help of the Farmer Input Support Program provided to the One Million Farmers.
According to Mr. CHIRWA, increasing small-scale farmers’ productivity will help address the mealie meal scarcity.
