Construction works of the Lundazi Bridge in Eastern Province have started following the arrival of the components from South Africa.
Hundreds of Lundazi residents paraded at the Bridge to catch a glimpse of the convoy of trucks carrying the components.
And Special Assistant to the President for Project Monitoring and Implementation Andrew Chellah says the beginning of the works signifies teamwork on all parties involved.
Mr Chellah is impressed that the works which will be undertaken on the Bridge will be of high quality.
And speaking shortly after leading a team of government officials to inspect the components, Road Development Agency -RDA- Chief Executive Officer George Manyele assured the people of Lundazi that the bridge will be of high quality.
Mr Manyele said Zambian engineers inspected the components of the bridge in South Africa before being imported into the country.
And Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Veronica Mwiche has challenged the contractor SHACHITARI Contractors to expedite the works following the arrival of the components.
Ms Mwiche said once completed, the Bridge will enhance business activities between Lundazi and Chipata Town.
And Chief Mphamba of the Tumbuka people has thanked the government for commencing the works on the bridge, stating that it will shorten the distance for the people of Lundazi.
