Court hears how Bowman Lusambo allegedly unleashed a group of thugs to attack UPND candidate

Bowman Lusambo

Losing United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Bernard Kanengo has narrated to court how he went to seek refuge in a mosque after an armed alleged supporter of Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Bowman Lusambo chased him.

In this matter, Mr Kanengo has petitioned Kabushi Constituency seat victory holder Mr Lusambo on grounds of malpractice before and during the August 12 General elections

When the matter came up yesterday before Lusaka Judge Mr Justice Edward Musona sitting in Ndola, Mr Kanengo testified how he was made to run from his campaigns after Mr Lusambo and His supporters allegedly attacked him.

“Shortly an unknown person came running and told us that Bowman and his hooligans who are well known as Nato Forces are here,” he said.

He told court that upon hearing that, he rushed to see whether the vehicle that was hired and the public address system where safe.

Mr Kanengo said before he could reach the point at which the vehicle was, he saw people in a Hilux speeding towards to where he and his supporters where.

“Having seen that the people were unruly, I ran away because they were shouting ‘We want Kanengo.’ Having seeing that I had run away, one of them disembarked while holding a fire arm and he was shouting ‘We want Kanengo,’” he said.

He said the armed man did not recognise him and so he ran further towards Kabushi Mosque where he went to hide with other members Moses Mumba and Patrick Mwewa.
