Things you probably didn’t know about Deborah Fraser

South African Gospel star, Dr Deborah Fraser who died on Sunday afternoon following a short illness was one of Mzansi’s most decorated musicians who achieved a lot in her career.

According to a statement that the family released on Sunday afternoon, Dr Fraser passed away at her home surrounded by family and loved ones in the afternoon.

After a Tiktok video of Dr Fraser performing in a wheelchair went viral on social media recently, she decided to clear the air on the reason why.

The undated video sparked social media speculations that the singer might have been acting during the performance, with others claiming she was suffering from a grave illness.

She then revealed to the media that she was sick and could not walk, but she was hopeful that she would get better.

Below are five things you probably didn’t know about the late Dr Fraser.

The late Deborah Fraser was born in 1966 in KwaMashu, South Africa.

She rose to fame after claiming that she was the voice behind most of the songs associated with Brenda Fassie. This probably helped her career soar when she started solo projects.

According to Briefly, She was once married to Sockey Okeke of Macy Chapel, a Nigerian pastor, some time back. At the time of her death, the two were no longer together as Fraser claimed that the pastor subjected her to satanic abuse.

Some of the famous Deborah Fraser albums include Abanye Bayombona, Born Again, and Udlalile Ngabantu, all solo albums. In earlier years, she was privileged to tour the world with great acts like Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Caiphus Semenya, and Letta Mbulu.

Some of the awards she scooped in her career include Best Gospel Artist at Kora Awards, Best Female Artist at Crown Gospel Music award Best Gospel Artist at Metro award Best Gospel at South African Music Awards(SAMA).
