Dramatic Hot Pursuit: SA Police spray live bullets from a helicopter at bank robbers – Video. According to information obtained by iHarare from a series of undated video footage, South African police are recorded whilst in hot pursuit of a white 4×4 Double cab which had earlier been involved in a cash-in-transit heist in Pretoria.
There was chaos after a cash-in-transit-armed robbery led to a massive police chase that ended with the law enforcers spraying live bullets at the armed thugs from a helicopter.
In what some have described as an exercise use of force, the helicopter hovers over the fast-moving vehicle whilst a gunman on board the aircraft sprays live bullets at the car until it eventually comes to a halt.
In the video that follows after, the criminals who have been disarmed are forced to lie on the ground as police make the arrest. However, from the video footage, no casualties are reported although the shoot-out is likely to have been fatal.
According to experts, although the use of the helicopter technique to bust criminals is rare, shooting from a helicopter is often used in the most desperate situations to prevent potential disaster. Sadly, South Africa which has notably one of the highest crime rate in Africa is currently bedevilled with a dramatic increase in cash-in-transit heists.
