THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set February 3, this year as date for the Kabwata parliamentary by-election.
The Kabwata parliamentary by-election was earlier scheduled to take place on January 20, this year, however the Commission cancelled the election following the resignation of United Progressive Party candidate, Francis Libanda, who invoked the provisions of Article 52(6) of the Republican Constitution.
And in a statement issued by ECZ corporate affairs manager Patricia Luhanga,nominations for the said by-election will be on Wednesday January 19, this year.
Ms Luhanga said the polls will take place from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours on February 3.
She said aspiring candidates in the by-election should lodge completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers subscribed before a Magistrate, Local Court Magistrate, Head of a Government Primary or Secondary School, Principal of a College, Commissioner for Oaths, Election Officer or returning officer on Wednesday, 19th January, 2022 between 09:00 hours and 15:00 hours
“The campaign period for this election commences on Wednesday 19th January 2022 after 15:00 hours and will end at 18:00 hours on Wednesday, 2nd February, 2022.
In addition, not more than two political party members or candidate representatives per participating political party or candidate shall be allowed to witness counting of votes at every Polling Station,” she said.
The election in Kabwata Constituency has been necessitated following the death of United Party for National Development (UPND) Member of Parliament, Levy Mkandawire on November 18, last year.
