The Electrol Commission of Zambia has received 587, 000,000.00 kwacha out of the total budget of K 674,245,808.00 for the voter registration exercise . ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager PATRICIA LUHANGA says the money received represents eighty seven percent of the total funds received so far for the exercise.
Ms LUHANGA says Funding for the rest of the electoral process is activity based and will be done according to the electoral calendar.
Meanwhile Ms LUHANGA told ZNBC News that political parties and other stakeholders are being encouraged to use appropriate campaign strategies such as mobile public address system, distribution of flyers and other political party materials with minimal or no contact with crowds during campaigns in view of Covid 19.
She said Statutory Instrument number 22 of 2020 provides the Legal Framework for the Commission to conduct elections in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic as all public gatherings are subject to Public Health Regulations. Ms LUHANGA said the regulations are not administered by the Electoral
Commission of Zambia and therefore, the only requirement is that once campaigns are authorised, all stakeholders must adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines. She said for actuall polls, the Commission will adhere to the required public health guidelines such as sanitising, wearing of face masks and social distancing as the electorate cast their votes if the pandemic will still be there during the during by August 12 general election.
