Copperbelt police impound 3 trucks fully packed with mealie meal

The Zambia Police in the Copperbelt have impounded three trucks laden with over 285 bags of 25kg breakfast Mealie Meal concealed in cement load. Copperbelt Police Chief Elias Chushi said the three trucks registration numbers AIB 3090, BAL 6917 and BAE 7387 were intercepted at Kafulafuta check point.

He said the trucks had documents indicating that they were carrying cement destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mr. Chushi said upon searching the trucks, it was also found that they had 600 bags of cement each while the mealie meal was concealed in big sacks. “One Truck Registration Number AIB 3090 was found laden with 600 bags of Cement and 285 bags of 25kg Breakfast Mealie Meal branded Easy Way Milling, properly concealed in big sacks. Each big sack contained 5 bags of Mealie Meal,” Mr Chushi stated.

He added that the bags of mealie meal were hidden under cement bags.
The trucks have since been impounded. Mr Chushi has commended officers for their increased vigilance at all the checkpoints, adding that the Zambia Police Service is equal to the task of providing security to the national food basket.
