EU Grants Kariba Dam 30M Euros

The Kariba Dam plunge pool remodeling project will get an additional 30-million-euro grant from the European Union (EU).

The money, which will be paid out in December, is in addition to the 294 million Euros already given for the projects, according to EU Head of Delegation to Zambia JACEK JANKOWSKI.

Following a visit of the Kariba Dam rehabilitation project with ministerial teams from Zambia and Zimbabwe, Mr. Jankowski was giving a speech in the Siavonga District today.

SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE, the finance minister, also spoke at the same ceremony and urged careful use of the cash.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Energy and Power Development, ZHEMU SODA, pledged that his nation would carry out the last-minute rehabilitation work at Kariba Dam.

Additionally, the project will be supported by the African Development Bank, Sweden, and the World Bank, according to the country manager for the bank, RAUBIL OLANIYI.

Since 2017, the Kariba Dam has been undergoing repair in order to improve the spillway gates and the water plunge pool.
