Hakainde Hichilema has flagged off a nationwide distribution of hand sanitisers and soaps to communities to fight the coronavirus outbreak. On Thursday, Zambia recorded its first COVID-19 death while at global level, as at yesterday, the pandemic has claimed over 53,000 lives.
The virus has also infected over one million people worldwide. I’ve flagged off a nationwide distribution of hand sanitisers and soaps to communities in need as we fight COVID-19. Let us all do what we can. Together, we shall overcome!” Hichilema, the UPND president, announced via Twitter.
As we distribute sanitary items in our communities, I call on Zambians to support the government by spreading the word about social distancing, washing of hands and reporting any symptoms.
In other news – Covid 19 update- No new cases recorded as two more are discharged
No new cases of covid 19 have been recorded in the last 24 hours out of 99 tests conducted, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has disclosed during the daily covid 19 press briefing. And two more patients have been discharged after testing negative bringing the total number of patients discharged to five.
Dr Chilufya further said more human capital will be deployed to the covid 19 hot spots in Lusaka and has appealed to residents to cooperate with them adding that people should sacrifice a little longer because the turning point for the virus will come soon. Read more
