Government and the Japanese Government have exchanged notes for a grant contract worth roughly K11.6 million that would help the Livingstone Museum upgrade its equipment for research and education, among other things.
The grant, a two-year contract, is the result of the government’s request that the Japanese government take into account funding improvements to the Livingstone Museum.
From 2023 to 2025, the project will be sponsored by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
During the signing ceremony today, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, Minister of Finance and National Planning, expressed her gratitude for the Japanese Government’s ongoing support of efforts to improve the nation.
According to him, the National Museum board would carry out the project on behalf of the government.
“The project which is around ZMW11.6 million for implementation of the project for the improvement of equipment for Research, Conservation, Exhibition and Education in the Livingstone Museum,” he said.
He stated that the project’s overarching goal is to improve the equipment required for educational programs, exhibitions, research, documentation, and conservation while also promoting understanding of the nation’s legacy and its significance.
“The Grant includes projectors, cameras,laptops , computers and biological microscope. The Grant will also be used to cover payments to suppliers and contractors and consultants under the project,” he said.
Dr. Musokotwane pleaded with the Japanese government to promote the industry by enticing its citizens to visit and take in the country’s tourism.
Takeuchi Kazuyuki, the Japanese ambassador to Zambia, also reaffirmed Japan’s support for Zambia, which dates back almost 50 years.
“The Japanese Government commits itself to continuous support of this great country of Zambia,” he said.
