The Citizenship Board has approved over 309 bestowal of citizenship applications out of 653 since January 2016.
Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo says the Citizenship Board has also granted citizenship by registration to 6 hundred and 44 established residents out of 1 thousand and 47 applicants.
Mr. Kampyongo was speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today.
He said the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs, with support from the International Organisation for Migration have developed guidelines in line with the diaspora policy launched in April 2019.
The Home Affairs minister said the guidelines will help citizens in the diaspora on how to access national documents such as the national registration card, passports and citizenship.
Mr. Kampyongo said the guidelines will also inform the diaspora on issues of land acquisition and investment opportunities.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kampyongo has noted with concern videos circulating on social media of people flashing money clad in party regalia.
He said the Zambia Police and the Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC- have since launched investigations into the matter.
Mr. Kampyongohas warned people engaging in such practices that such acts will not be condoned, regardless of the political party they belong to.
He said Government wants to ensure the passing of the Cyber Security Bill into law to address such acts.
