Government has approved the importation of about 5000 metric tonnes of refined edible oils for the next six months through the National Traders of Edible Oils Association.
This follows a successful meeting between government through the Ministries of Agriculture and Commerce and various stakeholders such as the National Traders of Edible Oils Association, the Crushers of Local Cooking Oil, Ministry of Agriculture and The Zambia National Farmers Union were an agreement was reached.
Disclosing the development to Phoenix News, Association National president Sylvester Kaluwe said the development which will be actualized in the next few weeks is likely to influence a price reduction of cooking oil on the local market.
Mr Kaluwe has since commended all stakeholders that were involved in pushing government to allow the importation of cooking oil in order to meet the current demand in the country.
