Govt extends mobile issuance of NRCs
The Zambian Government has extended phase one of the mobile issuance of National Registration Card (NRC) by 10 days.
Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo disclosed the development at a media briefing in Kasama.
Kampyongo said the exercise which was scheduled to end today, 10th September, will now end on 19th September, 2020.
He explained that the extension was necessitated by logistical challenges in the delivery of some equipment used in the exercise due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
Kampyongo further said the move to extend the exercise is aimed at allowing the smooth running of the exercise.Govt extends mobile issuance of NRCs
He adds that the extension will give adequate time to people in the affected area to acquire the NRC’s.
“I want to clarify that the exercise was not postponed but a move to ensure smooth operations for both phase one and two,” Kampyongo said.
He disclosed that the second phase will commence on 20th September, 2020, adding that it will run for forty days.
Meanwhile, Kampyongo has warned that authorities are on high alert to bring any foreigner to book who will try to acquire the NRC’s.
He reiterated that it is an offense for foreigners to acquire the documents meant for Zambian citizens.
Government is currently conducting phase one of the mobile issuance of NRCs in five provinces namely Northern, Luapula, Eastern, North Western and Copperbelt Provinces.
