The government has started implementing measures aimed at transforming ZESCO into a more efficient and effective public utility company.
Secretary to Cabinet, Roland Msiska says the implementation of the measures has started in earnest and government will give updates to the public and stakeholders on progress made.
Dr Msiska says the move follows resolutions made by Cabinet meeting held on July 16th, 2018, which recommended that an implementation team be constituted to turn ZESCO into a viable company.
Dr Msiska who is also Chairperson of the ZESCO Reforms Implementation Team told ZNBC News in a statement, that ZESCO which is a wholly State-owned Enterprise will remain so into the foreseeable future.
The government in 2017, commissioned a diagnostic study which made recommendations to ameliorate the challenges that ZESCO is facing.
