Government has awarded the education sector an eight percent salary increment across the board. Representative of six teacher unions Victor Muyumbwa said they agreed to sign the eight percent salary increment because negotiations were done under very difficult conditions .
He was Speaking during the signing of the 2020-2021 education sector collective agreement in Lusaka today between the teacher service commission and the teacher unions.
Meanwhile Teaching service chairperson Stanely Mhango who was represented Government commended the unions for providing leadership and ensuring that there was no industrial unrest in the education sector.
He said the eight percent increment has been done at a challenging time when the country and the entire world is fighting the Covid 19 pandemic which has had a negative effect on economies.
And Chairperson of the bargaining team Andrew Phiri said he is happy that the two parties have agreed to explain the agreed terms to their employees and members, respectively.
