Govt releases K3.8 million for land set for ex-miners

Government has released 3.8 million Kwacha for the demarcation of farmland allocated to retrenched ex-miners on the Copperbelt and North Western provinces.

Ex Miners Association of Zambia President Thaulo Chewe says the funds will be used by the Ministry of Lands to demarcate plots allocated to deserving ex miners in Mufulira, Chililabombwe and Solwezi.

He has thanked President Edgar Lungu for ensuring that funds are released on time.

Mr. Chewe disclosed the development when he addressed scores of former miners in Kitwe today.

He told the ex miners who also received 25 Kilogram bags of breakfast mealie meal that Government will not neglect the former mine workers.

Mr. Chewe is happy that almost ninety percent of the new landlords are engaged in active maize production and other cash crops.

And one of the beneficiaries, Mirriam Banda is happy that Government has continued to care for former miners who lost jobs five years ago.
