Govt set to launch sector-based minimum wage

Government plans to introduce statutory instruments that will spell out the minimum wage by sector.

Labour and Social Security Minister Joyce Simukoko says some of the sector that will be consider will include the Media and mining sector.

Mrs Simukoko says the the task will be undertaken by the labour advisory committee which has already began consultations with media sectors after it successfully developed the transport sector statutory instrument 2020.

She was speaking during the tripartite consultative labour council meeting held in Lusaka today.

And speaking at the same event, International labour Organisation Country Director George Okutho urged the labour movement in the country to always embrace dialogue.

And Acting Zambia Federation of Employers -ZFE- President Myra Ngoma said more needs to be done to address the high levels of unemployment so that the country can curtail the current social and economic challenges.
