Govt to audit use of Covid-19 funds

Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba says there is need to carry out a forensic audit at the Ministry of Health on the utilization of Covid -19 resources.

Mr Yamba says the treasury will soon be engaging the office of the Auditor General to establish how the matter can be dealt with.

The Secretary to the Treasury also disclosed that the treasury will work with other investigative wings to verify the 2.4 billion kwacha debt at the ministry.

Mr. Yamba also disclosed that the treasury has started planning and sourcing for funds to construct infectious diseases hospital in all provinces to help deal with diseases such as Covid -19 and Ebola.

He said this when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee on the consideration of the interim report of the auditor General on the audit utilization of Covid -19 resources as of 31st July, 2020.

And Public Accounts Committee Chairperson Howard Kunda said the issue arising from the Ministry of health is an indication of the officers failing to follow the laid down rules.

Mr. Kunda also called for the quick completion of Infectious disease hospital in provinces.
