Hundreds Queue Up For Licenses As Cadastre Reopens

Following the opening of the mining cadastre department today, more than 300 applications for mining licenses have been submitted.

Early this year, the Department was shut down due to allegations of corruption in the awarding of mining permits.

People began lining up to apply for licenses as early as yesterday, according to SAMUEL MAANGO, the director of the Ministry of Mines Cadastre Department.

According to Mr. MAANGO, the number of people wanting to obtain mining licenses has overrun his department.

According to him, mining exploration in Zambia is highly competitive.

A ZNBC News crew arrived at the Cadastre offices in Lusaka at 17 hours this evening to find hundreds of applicants still lined up there.
