Immigration rounds up 436 people in Lusaka Clean Up Operation

A cleanup exercise conducted by the Immigration Department in Lusaka has landed about 436 people in trouble.

In a statement released by the public relations officer Namati Nshinka, the exercise which was conducted in different parts of Lusaka for three days, unvailed the illegal stay of people in the Province.

He said after the screening exercise, 313 people were singled out as being illegal immigrants who have since been detained at the immigration department.

Mr Nshinka said 57 people were let loose after they managed to produce the proof of legal immigration status. And Mr Nshinka said 72 other people are to report to the immigration office for further investigations.

“The Department of Immigration, on Sunday, 29th May 2022 apprehended 202 persons of different nationalities. This was on the last day of a three-day clean-up operation conducted in various parts of Lusaka bringing the number of persons nabbed from 27th to 29th May 2022 to 436,” he said.
