Must read

Zambia has detected one case of the Indian variant of COVID-19 in a 42-year-old man.

Health Permanent Secretary Kennedy Malama says the individual recently travelled to India and has since been isolated.

Dr. Malama says the male individual is being monitored in the isolation center and has not shown any major symptoms nor is he in a critical condition.

Dr Malama disclosed this during the COVID-19 update briefing in Lusaka today.

He also disclosed that the AstraZeneca vaccine has been reserved for members of the public who got the first doses.

Dr Malama explained that the vaccine has been reserved as a second dose because the country anticipates a shortage following increased demand from India who are manufacturing the vaccines for their use.

Meanwhile, Dr. Malama revealed that the country has in the last 24 hours recorded 60 new cases of Covid-19 and 2 deaths.

And the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary has urged political parties to adhere to guidelines that have been provided by the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- against holding public rallies as they campaign for the August 12 polls due to COVID-19.
