Police in India are investigating the death of 20-year-old Zambian student Michael Muyande Chibanga who died after falling off a stair case yesterday. Chibanga who was a second year student of Mechanical Engineering at Rayat Bahra University-Punjab, India is said to have missed a stair step after attending a friend’s birthday party.
His death has officially been confirmed by the High Commission of the Republic of Zambia in New Delhi, India. According to a statement issued by first secretary press at Zambia High Commission in India, Bangwe Naviley, the incident occured around 01:30 hours and Chibanga’s next of kin had been notified.
“The High Commission of the Republic of Zambia in New Delhi, India is actively following up on the incident and will provide an update once all the investigations are concluded,” Naviley quoted Zambia’s High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga as saying.
“The repatriation of the deceased’s remains to Zambia awaits the conclusion of the investigations by Indian police, post-mortem and further guidance from the family,” Kapijimpanga further stated.
