The rapper’s role will consist of helping the company with its creative decisions and outreach efforts. Billionaire rapper Jay-Z is going into the cannabis industry. The award-winning rapper has reportedly entered into a partnership with a privately-owned Cannabis company called Caliva, which was established in San Jose in 2015.
The rapper will be more on the creative direction side of the company as a chief brand strategist. He is expected to increase job training for former prisoners as part of his ongoing outreach program called Reform Alliance and foster quality and fairness in the development of the legal marijuana industry.
Jay-Z, real name Shawn Corey Carter, reportedly said he “wants to create something amazing” and do good.
He is not the first celebrity to invest in the rapidly-growing cannabis industry as its legalisation for recreational use has spread in the United States in cities like Califonia. Rapper Snoop Dogg and Whoopi Goldberg have also vested interests in the industry. Snoop Dogg has his brand labelled Leafs by Snoop with actress Whoopi Goldberg’s 2016 line of medical marijuana providing relief for menstrual cramps.
