Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- Lusaka Regional Coordinator Newton Malaya has warned people living on the islands of the Kafue River and the banks to relocate before the areas get flooded.
Mr. Malaya has cautioned that the areas expect floods because of the increased rainfall activities in the country.
He says the water levels in the Kafue River have increased which might flood the islands and the Riverbanks.
Mr. Malaya has urged residents on the islands and those near the river to take the message seriously.
He said this after the DMMU committee in Kafue district toured Manyonyo Island.
And Kafue District Commissioner Gibson Sinkala said government will provide the necessary support to help the people on Manyonyo Island to relocate.
Mr. Sinkala said government will also provide food and tents to the people.
Government through the Ministry of Health has also distributed mosquito nets to the people of Manyonyo.
