Lifted Ban On Trade Of Pigs And Pigs’ Products

The restriction on trade in pigs and pig products has been lifted by the government.

Normal trading can now resume, according to Minister of Fisheries and Livestock MAKOZO CHIKOTE, as the African swine fever outbreak has been contained.

Mt. CHIKOTE said the government increased financing for cattle disease management measures during a press conference in Lusaka to make sure the disease is brought under control.

Mr. CHIKOTE continued by saying that an outbreak of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) that had been detected in the Chisamba and Chibombo areas had been eliminated as a result of actions that required the slaughter of roughly 11,000 cattle there.

In addition, he underlined that CBPP surveillance should be increased at all country abattoirs and that all cattle should be tested before permits for travel are issued.
