Thress people have been injured in Kauka village of Shambala Ward in Itezhi Tezhi District after a lion attacked them.
In a statement, Itezhi Tezhi Constituency Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta has identified the three affected people as Gosta Kayuwa, Herbert Muchindu and Manex Mizinga.
Mr Mutinta who is saddened by the event, has since called the immediate setting up of a human animal conflict mitigation fund, which will be used to protect the people and fund medicals as well other needs when such unfortunate events happen.
“Itezhi Tezhi being in the belly of the Kafue National Park, needs intense attention over such matters which may be inevitable now and in the future,” he said.
He has further advised residents in Shambala Ward and Itezhi Tezhi at large to alert the department of national parks and wildlife (DNPW) whenever they spot a dangerous stray animal and also called on the DNPW to be proactive when called upon to respond to such matters in the interest of protecting the people.
Mr Mutinta has also urged government to speed up the process of establishing land use management policies in game management areas that will ensure that co-existence is well coordinated.
The injured were rushed and are currently receiving medical attention at Itezhi Tezhi District Hospital.
