Zambia’s Acting President Inonge Wina has authorised the evacuation of former Vice President Lupando Mwape to South Africa for specialist treatment.
Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya confirmed the development to ZNBC News in Lusaka this evening saying the former vice president will be evacuated tomorrow morning.
Mr Mwape has been admitted to the University Teaching Hospital-UTH-for the last nine days.
And speaking from his hospital bed, Mr Mwape thanked President Edgar Lungu and Acting President Inonge Wina for the love and care showed to him through the hospital staff at UTH.
Meanwhile, Dr Chilufya has disclosed that Board Chairperson of the Health Professions Council of Zambia-HPCZ- Sekelani Banda has been removed and replaced with Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Administration, Kennedy Malama.
Dr Chilufya also says the ministry of health, acting through the civil service commission, has further recalled from secondment, HPCZ Registrar, Dr Aaron Mujajati, and redeployed him to Ndola Central Hospital.
In a separate development, Dr Chilufya says thirty-two thousand people living with HIV have been placed on the new HIV drug Dolutegravir -DTG- across the country.
The Minister said the 32 thousand patients were put on the new drug after the successful transition of the over seven thousand HIV affected people in the pilot rollout at the University Teaching Hospital.
