With regular captain Ashley Young set to leave Manchester United in the coming days, the Premier League giants have now revealed which player will take over the armband moving forward.
On Friday, ahead of United’s Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Harry Maguire has been named as the club’s new permanent captain.
The announcement follows reports that Young is set to end his nine-year affiliation with the Red Devils in the coming days, with the 34-year-old strongly linked with a move to Serie A side Inter Milan.
Maguire has assumed the captaincy less than six months after joining the club from Leicester City for a world-record fee for a defender of £80 million (R1.5 billion).
The England international, who had previously donned the armband in Young’s absence, has been selected for the leadership role ahead of David de Gea, who had also previously captained the side.
