Mayor of Lusaka City Miles Sampa has launched an initiative aimed at improving road safety through reduced speed around schools.
The project is part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Partnership for Healthy Cities.
According to a statement issued by Lusaka City Council Public Relations Officer Veronica Katongo, the initiative is being implemented by Vital Strategies and sponsored by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Ms Katongo disclosed that the partnership is aimed at improving road safety for children.
She added that the initiative has seen Kamanga Primary school being upgraded with raised Zebra Crossings, Rumble Strips, Footpaths, Bollards and Signages.
And Mr Sampa said during the launch that children need to be protected on their daily journey to and from school.
Sampa mentioned that he is in full support of the initiative’s implementation as he donated K10, 000 which is to be used in maintaining the new lifesaving infrastructure at Kamanga Primary School.
