Ministry of Health confirms shortage of TLE ARV’s in hospitals

The Ministry of Health has confirmed reports that there is a shortage of TLE-the first line Antiretroviral-ARV drugs in the country.

About 70, 000 people who are on TLE-the first line ARV drug have been left stranded as they have not been receiving their medication for two weeks.

Ministry of Health Permanent secretary for administration Dr. Kennedy Malama has attributed the interruption in the supply of the TLE ARV’s to delayed deliveries of the consignment from the suppliers.

In an interview with Millennium Radio News, Dr. Malama explained that Zambia was expecting some antiretroviral drugs to arrive in the country some time back but the orders delayed due to covid19 logistics.

He says the supplier has since been engaged and all efforts are being made to normalize the situation. Dr. Malama has appealed to the people on treatment to remain clams as government is doing everything possible normalize the supply.
