Mopani hires foreign experts to probe the fire accident. Company Chief Social Services Officer Senga Chitoshi made the disclosure when Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe made a stopover at the company’s central offices in Kitwe.

Fire experts have arrived in the country to help establish the cause of the fire that led to the death of three miners at Mopani Copper Mines’ Mindola North Underground shaft.

Chitoshi said Mopani Copper Mines had attached great importance to find out the cause of the mine accident.

And Mwakalombe has demanded that investigations be expedited so that the public is well informed. Mwakalombe said the government was worried about the number of lives being lost due to mine accidents.

He implored Mopani Copper Mines to safeguard the lives of its employees whom he said were key to the company’s productivity. Mwakalombe later visited the three houses of mourning and the survivor admitted at Wusakile Mine Hospital who is said to be in a stable condition.
