The Lamba people of the Masaiti District in the Copperbelt now have HECTOR MPENGULA as their new Senior Chief MUSHILI, according to the LUSAKA High Court.
Following Joyce Katampi’s annulment of an order against Mr. MPENGULA, who asserts that he is the legitimate heir to the kingdom, this has happened.
Judge JOHN MBUZI of the KITWE High Court has revoked the order.
The injunction, according to Justice MBUZI, has been superseded by circumstances because Ms. KATAMPI filed the case on August 24, 2022, whereas Mr. MPENGULA was installed on August 20, 2022.
Ms. KATAMPI argued that on September 10, 2021, she was properly chosen to be Senior Chieftainess MUSHILI and that she was thereafter appointed on September 11, 2022.
In accordance with Order 27 of the High Court Rules, Ms. KATAMPI requested an injunction against Mr. MPENGULA.
Mr. MPENGULA, however, argued that his accession to the throne occurred following the passing of his predecessor, KENNETH MPENGULA, on April 23,2022.
He added that the BENA-MUSHILI Royal Clan Customs were broken in the selection of JOYCE KATAMPI as Senior Chieftainess MUSHILI.
He was the first defendant in the case; the following defendants were JOSEPH MWAMBANA, JESTER KATAMPI, and MABLE KATAMPI, in that order.
The spokesperson for Mr. MPENGULA, JOSEPH MWAMBANA, stated in an interview with ZNBC News that the leadership disputes over the MUSHILI throne had been resolved as a result of the court decision.
Mr. Mwambana also suggested that should Joyce Katampi file an appeal against the High Court’s decision, the new Chief is prepared to meet her.
