LUMEZI Political Party Munir Zulu, a member of parliament who is independent, has been detained for using hate speech.

After being asked to report to Police Headquarters, Mr. Zulu was taken into custody this morning.

An earlier complaint was made against Mr. Zulu after one of his social media posts about his alleged disdain for the residents of Bweengwa, Southern Province, went viral.

Mr. Zulu was detained for violating Section 70 (1) of the Criminal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, by expressing or demonstrating hatred, ridicule, or contempt for anyone based on their race, tribe, place of origin, or color. Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the arrest.

“This is in connection with the alleged utterances he made on March 28, 2023 at Longacres Police Post car park after his release from Police Custody,” he said.

Mr Mwale said the suspect has been released on Police Bond pending court appearance.
