The Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- says it has received overwhelming response from members of the public on its ‘Operation Clear Your Car initiative’.
ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Topsy Sikalinda says under the initiative, anyone that approaches the Authority with a dubiously imported car only pays for the principal tax after an assessment without being charged any penalties or interest.
Mr. Sikalinda says ZRA understands that tax penalties and interests are a high business cost to taxpayers.
He has said in a statement to ZNBC news in Lusaka today that the decision to extend an olive branch to the public is aimed at educating them public on proper ways of importing motor vehicles.
Mr. Sikalinda expressed optimism that such initiatives can help change the culture towards paying taxes.
He disclosed that ‘Operation Clear Your Car Now’ that was launched in March this year comes to an end on May 26, 2021.
