NELLY MUTTI, the Speaker of the National Assembly, has asked Community Development Minister DOREEN MWAMBA to provide a ministerial declaration regarding the rise in sodomy cases nationwide.
Ms. MUTTI has instructed Ms. MWAMBA to deliver her testimony on Thursday of next week since she believes the problem needs attention.
She claims that since the House recently passed the Child Code, it is the duty of Parliamentarians to safeguard teenagers.
According to Ms. MUTTI, the issue of sodomy has an impact on children’s life and has the potential to cause suicide or death due to mental health issues.
She was responding to EMMANUEL BANDA, a member of parliament for Petauke Central, who inquired about the haste with which the Ministry of Community Development was addressing the problem.
