Police launch investigations to identify people who are disseminating pornographic videos that claim to be from a “particular woman.”

POLICE have launched investigations to identify the individuals sharing recordings and to confirm the legitimacy of the social media videos that have gone viral.

Police are concerned about the spread of pornographic videos that have gained popularity on WhatsApp groups and other social media sites, according to police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga.

He issued a warning to members of the public, stating that it is illegal under both Section 56 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021 and Section 177 of the Zambian Penal Code Act to publish, circulate, offer, possess, or solicit obscene material, which includes all pornographic content featuring naked adults and/or minors.

“Police have instituted investigations to find the persons circulating the said videos and as well as to establish the authenticity of the videos,” he said.

According to Mr. Hamoonga, the police are advising the general population to stop disseminating obscenity going forward because doing so is illegal and is punishable by law.
