President Edgar Lungu has donated over one thousand bags of mealie to medical students at three tertiary institutions in Kalulushi on the Copperbelt.
The students, from Kalulushi College of Nursing, Chibuluma College of Health Sciences and Zambia Catholic University, collected their mealie meal this morning.
Kalulushi District Commissioner Stephen Kainga, who handed over the mealie meal, on behalf of President LUNGU, said the Head of State wants to cushion the burden students have.
Mr Kainga said the mealie meal will go a long way in helping the students focus on their studies instead of looking for money for mealie meal.
He encouraged the students to ensure they pass exams and impress the President who understands their plight.
And one of the medical students Theresa Nankonde thanked the Head of State for the gesture.
Ms. Nankonde said the gesture by the President has reduced the burden the students have as they do not earn any income.
