Mr Disquence Mwaka of Mufulira was not always disabled. He suffered a twist of fate about 8 years ago when he was hit by a speeding vehicle which left him disabled with both of his hands amputated and the right part of his face including his ear grazed off.
After being born healthy, his disability in adulthood could have left him resigned to a life of misery and destitution.
He however chose to beat all odds and put his life in order using the little resources he had available.
He started farming on a small portion of land using his legs to till the land.
With that he has been able to feed and take care of his beautiful wife and children.
A news item was carried on the National broadcaster ZNBC detailing Mr Mwakas story about a month ago.
This caught the eye of the Head of State, President Lungu who immediately instructed Lands Minister Hon. Jean Kapata to provide Mr Mwaka with adequate land on which to do his farming at a large scale.
Yesterday, Hon. Jean Kapata in the company of Mufilira District Commissioner Mr Mike Manda and officials from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, delivered the land title to Mr Mwaka and his wife on behalf of the President.
At the same event, ETG donated farming inputs to Mr Mwaka to the tune of K41, 000 to help him begin his farming on his land at a grand scale. And Mr Mwaka expressed gratitude to President Lungu for the life changing gift he had given him.
Meanwhile Hon. Jean Kapata has urged the differently abled in the nation to endeavor to aquire a piece of land and get into farming to help themselves and their families stating that disability is not inability.
She said her Ministry is ready to give land to any Zambian who applies and meets the requirements without discrimination.
