Mumbi Phiri, a former deputy secretary of the Patriotic Front, was granted freedom when the State submitted a nollie prosequi in a case in which he was accused of murder, a capital offense.
Senior State Counsel Kayoka Sifali entered the nollie prosequi this morning on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions, ending the case against her.
In this case, Phiri and Shebby Chilekwa, the barber of former president Edgar Lungu, were both accused of murder.
The two are suspected of killing Lawrence Banda, a supporter of the United Party for National Development (UPND), at the Kaoma, Western Province, council chairperson by-election in 2019.
Before Charles Zulu in October of this year, Phiri and Chilekwa, the barber of former president Edgar Lungu, had disputed the charge.
