SDA church bury 34 unclaimed bodies at Chingwere cemetery in Lusaka

THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) has partnered with the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church to bury 34 unclaimed bodies at Chingwere cemetery.

Lilanda Congregation of Midlands West Zambia Conference in Lilanda Mission District sponsored the burial logistics and conducted a church service for the unclaimed bodies.
LCC public relations officer Emmanuel Lupikisha has told Mwebantu in a statement that the partnership follows a media statement issued on 31st December, 2021 by LCC regarding the impending burial of unclaimed bodies.

“The Church was therefore, touched and expressed interest to partner with LCC by giving the unclaimed bodies a dignified burial. The partnership came to fruition today when the church rose to the occasion in an unprecedented way by taking over the entire funeral procession from the University Teaching Hospital UTH, to Church and to the final resting place in Chingwere,” he said.

Mr Lupikisha said the council is humbled by the work of SDA Church in performing the noble task of burying unclaimed bodies and hopes that other organisations will emulate the good works of the SDA church in Lusaka.

“The Local Authority also wishes to thank UTH management for facilitating the release of the bodies and for sending representatives to the burial,” he said.
